How to join your library
It’s easy and free! Just take proof of who you are, when you join, or join online.
You will be able to borrow up to 20 books until the date stamped (normally 3 weeks) and you can ask if you want to keep them longer.
The children’s section contains:
- Picture books and board books
- Stories and novels
- Information books
Some adult books may be appropriate, but you need to ensure they are suitable for your child’s age and ability.
Please ask staff if your child has particular learning or access needs.
As a parent, you’ll also find books on topics like health, starting school and coping with toddlers. |

Joining for childminders
It’s easy and free! Just take proof that you are a registered childminder and confirmation of your address when you join in any library.
You will be able to borrow 20 picture books for up to 6 weeks, but you can change them more often if you want.
Joining for pre-school services
It’s easy and free! If you are a supervisor of a group caring for under 5s (i.e. playgroups, nurseries and other pre-school groups), just take proof of your address. As supervisor, you are responsible for the books borrowed, but anyone involved in your group can take part in book exchanges. Just take some identification when you join in any library. |

Why not ask your local library about a story session for your pre-school group?
Running, racing and roaring!
Your children are welcome- we do not expect silence - but please supervise them so they are safe. We ask you to stay with your children in the library if they are under 8 years old.
